You think a bang did that? – A Poem

Do you seriously believe that the world started with a bang?

And we all came like that?

You think a bang could make the gold sun rise and set?

You think a bang could make the wind blow the tides and make the sand wet?

You think a bang pinned the stars to the sky?

And made the dawn and the darkness of the night?

You think a bang could make our hearts beat rapidly and make our hearts beat slow?

You think a bang could make us clever and a bang could make us grow?

If you think a bang did that

Then what do you know?

  1. Aye the big bang theory is just that.. A theory.. Being a scientist myself I know that Γ  theory stays a theory unless proven otherwise I.e the hypothesis is proven to be correct.. Although astronomers are still working around the clock to provide some evidence as we speak.. LOVE THIS and I’m loving the logo aswell

  2. That’s not what ‘scientific theory’ means. And it’s only ever been about probabilities rather than certaintiesβ€” how likely something is to be true given the evidence. The big bang is one of the scientific theories most well-supported by evidence that there are. Its predictions are an astoundingly good match to observations of reality.

It wasn’t actually the big bang itself which formed everything, but the big bang together with the physical laws.

Anyways, in my perspective, the idea of everything being explained by physical laws does not make it any less beautiful, actually more beautiful to me. Science and beauty don’t have to be exclusive. And no matter how much we learn about the universe, for me it’s still very hard sometimes to emotionally connect the intricacy of reality that we seeβ€” the microscopic workings of the body for exampleβ€” to the thought of it all being a result of the physical laws and the initial state of the universe. There can still be a feeling of mysticism about it all, despite what you know rationally.

  3. Sure :). I can totally understand that making more sense emotionally, spiritually. And we still have no idea how there was a big bang at all, and may never know.

But the ‘why’ will never be explained. Whenever I try to think about why any of this exists at all, how come it exists for us to try to explain how it works, in the first place, it terrifies me! It gives me a feeling of being at a very great height, or being faced with something intimidatingly huge. That feeling scares me, and I can’t stay with it for long!

  4. Very interesting! I’ve read about the Big Bang and Islam, and supposedly there are some verses which prove of a Big Bang? I’m not sure, to each their own πŸ˜‚ Maybe you could look into it and write about it!
