Thursday poetry competition, the results!!!

Last week we had our popular Thursday Poetry competition and the topic was isolation.

We had this comp judged by Ingrid. She is one extraordinary woman who is a great poet herself and runs an awesome blog called Experiments in fiction. Ingrid kindly agreed to judge this competition and before I reveal the winner, she wanted to say a few words:

First of all, I’d like to say what a huge honour it has been to judge this competition. I have recently learned that a poem I wrote for a competition is about to be published in a forthcoming anthology, so I know how exciting it feels to take part. In my opinion, everyone who took part in this competition is a winner. Each poem told me a story of the individual’s response to isolation. It was very moving to me to read all of these entries. I know that many people around the globe are enduring isolation now, and turning to their inner strength to pull them through. I have nothing but admiration for each one of you! But I have to pick a winner, so my winner is…

The WINNER:

Haroon!!!

Congratulations Haroon! Check out his incredible poem here:

This is what he wrote:

Adrift life
Poetry……Isolation
Estranged emotions
Desolate faces
Abandoned situations
Alienated businesses
Friendless institutions
Cladding Isolation
.

Haroon Mirza

I liked the simplicity of the message rendered poetic by the author’s careful choice of words and metre. To me this poem sums up the lockdown situation in a succinct and powerful manner. Congratulations Haroon!
