Black 🖤 – A Poem

Black

Black

They don’t judge us by our hearts

Too busy staring at our skin

They want to kill us because of the envelope

That we’re wrapped in

They get out their bows,

It’s so easy to aim

At the people they hate

Because no one’s going say anything

But they’re wrong

Wrong

Do they know that we’re not helpless

We’re not useless

We’re not hopeless

Do they know that the colour

Is completely God’s choices

Do they know that we’re humans

Teachers and trainers

Do they know we’re studying hard

To become life savers

Do they know that we stand proud

And it’s so easy to unite

Except for the colour, what’s the difference between black and white?

We’re a team

A family

We’re the same species

But you still hunt us down

And you rule us out

Of the word human

Killing the black

Patting murders backs

Let us live for a moment

Then there’s no need to wait

You haven’t even met us

But you’ve already decided our fate

Then you blame other religions for spreading the hate

That’s right

It’s not just blacks

It’s not just whites

You think that you have the right

To kill any other colour out of sight

And we’ve been telling you our lives matter

But you put us aside

But what you don’t know

Is that we’ll just gather and rise

And we won’t stop

Till we win this fight

And we won’t stop till justice is served

And we won’t stop till our voices are heard

……..

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love.”. —Nelson Mandela
