Interview with Author Paula Puolakka

Paula Puolakka is a Beat poet and writer.

Her remarkable writing has won ma ny prizes and has been featured in magazines and contest longlists. She has published two poetry books and three novels.

It’s a pleasure to feature Paula on Penable!

Thank you Paula for answering the questions and reaching out.

What motivates you to write?

What advice would you give to aspiring authors and poets?

You have to know yourself before you can give advice to others. Being a (mental) guide is what sharing ideas is all about, basically.

A writer is a “Propaganda Meister” even if you’re writing about kitties or trees. Who is your leader and your lord: who is the one you’re serving? Are you ready to face the consequences of your words?

What do you enjoy most about writing?

It’s a conversation between me and my Lord.

Favourite quote?

John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and his diet was locusts and wild honey. (Mark 1:6)

Where do your best ideas come from?

My Lord has so many ideas: there is no end. Sometimes, when I’m walking around, I may find a beautiful stone. Sometimes, a ladybug comes to greet me. A gift like this makes me wanna give something back to the One who made me smile: the best ideas are born out of gratitude and love.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this interview.

Thank you to Paula Puolakka!

Stay safe,
